A long time
ago I explained here
the Touristologist’s way to analyze any social networking site.
(By the
way, you can see there a video of mine talking about 1,2,3 theory for starters!)
I stated
something similar to:
…BUT the
real thing, the Touristology one, when Pinterest becomes really interesting is
when you integrate it into a chain of value!!!
Let’s
consider that you want to attract a segment of affluent families, this will be
number one, (even though I strongly recommend to use a higher level of
segmentation . See the picture) then you customize your offer, this will be
number two, and finally you use or set up a chain of value, number three…
As I stated
in this post, pinterest could be a member of this chain of value (as a meeting
place) basically because affluent women like to use it and they are the ones
who usually plan the getaways for the entire family and also because in the
tourism sector we are selling/sharing
experiences. One perfect way to do that is through visual support (Pictures,
videos…) which is the stuff Pinterest is made of!! Travel channel also can help us to get visual engagement and thanks to its agreement
with tripology we get a chain of value ready to connect to
different tourism destinations.
Who is able
to make the necessary commercial and technological agreements? My
Touristologists can do that! As I proudly declare in this conference.
Maybe you
are new to Pinterest. Don’t worry, let’s see some basic things and then some
advanced advice related to Touristology. Shall we?
1) Let’s
create our own space in Pinterest. Easy peasy just go to sign up page in
pinterest and follow its clear instructions…
The final result can be something similar to this board dedicated to
Touristology (What else?)
2) Let’s
learn how to pin any picture or video.
As usual
a picture is worth
a thousand words. I use a picture to explain how to pin pictures… I love loops
3) Maybe
you like to give the option to the visitors of your website to share your
pictures/videos in a more attention-grabbing way. As I did in this prototype
website (where you can see the “Pin it” logo enclosed in
red) that I used to teach future Touristologists how to make animated gifs with
GIMP,
how to deal with Jquery, how to do a little bit of webscraping (they have to create a piece of code and get the price that appears
there enclosed in green) and, finally, how to create a
form, capture the data and save it inside a NoSql data base which GAE (GoogleApplication Engine) offers!
How do you
put the “Pin it” logo next to your picture/video?
In order to
do that, you have to go here:
And write
down the URL of your website and the URL of the
specific video or picture.
Remember to use your keywords for this segment! Your SEO will be grateful to
you!
Can pinterest be useful for Revenue Managers? Well, it’s clearly a Where
in the usual graphical representation of a short vision of a Revenue Manager!
What about When?
Can you think of the best moments during the day, the best days of the
week to pin an offer in video/picture format? Remember our target segment! Do
you think it can be different for other countries and cultures? At the end of
the day, we are Touristologists and multiculturality is one of our specialties
Do you think that this is a good example of web 2.0 business model? Are you offering the 3C’s in a customized way, using syndication and
pro-am?
Do you think that you get a good example of contextualization? Remember
content is the king BUT context is the queen!!!
Jordi! Is contextualization so
important? Don’t ask me, Touristologists… you can ask Google!
For any other question related to Touristology you can ask any of my
Touristologists. They are the best professionals in town!
